Swordplay / UTSA Club Fencing
Celebrating a timeless sport since Spring 2002

Swordplay is a group of students at the University of Texas at San Antonio dedicated to learning and competing in the sport of fencing.

The club is primarily student run, with a club faculty advisor to offer support and advice. Because fencing is usually not available to students until they get to college, members of Swordplay are dedicated to teaching beginning fencers. Fencing is a co-ed sport, and all UTSA students are welcome to give the sport, and this club, a try.

Congratulations all who got to go to SWIFA this semester! All who were new to SWIFA showed great improvement and adaptability in their bouts throughout the day(s). Also, our club now has 4 SWIFA points due to our placings in this semester’s placings:
For SWIFA 1: Andrew, Jerry, and Nick placed 3rd for Saber, giving us 1 point.
For SWIFA 2: Andrew, Jerry, and Tiffany placed 3rd for Saber’s Team A, giving us 1 point. Meanwhile, Epee teams 1 and 2, comprising of Bryan, Gemma, Kenneth, Nancy, Nick, and Veronica, managed to climb up to the semifinals and fence off for 3rd place.

Elections went well and fast. As a result we welcome the current officers into their positions and wish them the best of luck:
President: Justin Brite
V.P.: Nicholas Baker
Secretary: Gemma Sooksprasong
Treasurer: Bryan Schultz
Public Relations Officer: Megan Holder
Armorer: Kenneth Ramsey

The End-of-the-year Banquet this year will be held at Nancy’s House.
When: Monday, December 7 at 5:00PM. If everyone can RSVP before 2:00PM that day, that would make everything easier.
What: We will be having Rudy’s BBQ. There will be Rockband and Karaoke.
Who: Everyone is welcome to come, however, the food and drink will be for the members who have paid dues. Those who haven’t paid dues, will have to be required to pay a yet-to-be-determined ($5-$10) amount of money, before they are allowed to eat the provided food.
